Your partnership in giving to the Christian Education Fund is needed to allow students from all areas of our community to attend Portland Christian School.

Begun as a work of faith and a labor of love, the school was supported by free-will offerings alone until 1985.  So the mission of the school could continue, a tuition policy was adopted for the 1985-86 school year and remains in effect today.  However, even with the tuition plan, more than half the cost of educating students comes from the support of churches and individuals interested in partnering with the talented staff, teachers, and administrators who serve in this ministry.

The school board has made a true effort to balance the annual budget.  A budget that reflects the school population, faculty, staff, and overhead is the goal as the budget is written.  No educational institution can receive enthusiastic support until it has secured the confidence of its constituency in operational matters.    This is the only way to be good stewards to our families, donors, and workers.  The budget each year leaves room for an amount of "blessing" from God to cover the cost of educating the students.  He has blessed the school for 85 years with alumni, friends, and donors to cover the cost of students who can’t afford the full tuition.  To insist on the use of accepted business principles is not to minimize the need for dependence on God.  Christian school leaders clearly understand that God will supply all the school’s needs (Philippians 4:19).  While thanking God, the school must do everything with decency and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40).  This involves sound businesslike procedures in budgeting and in receipt and expenditure of all monies.  Financing the Christian school properly takes faith manifested in the context of sound business principles, wisdom, experience, and reasonable accountability.
